IPL 2022: Liam Livingstone’s blistering 49* runs and Jitesh Sharma’s fast 19 enabled Punjab Kings defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad by five wickets in the last league match of IPL 2022 at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.

Punjab Kings’ Liam Livingstone top-scored with 49, while Shikhar Dhawan and Jitesh Sharma scored 39 and 19 respectively. Fazalhaq Farooqi took two wickets for SRH, while Jagadeesha Suchith and Washington Sundar each took one wicket. Chasing 158, Punjab Kings got off to a flying start, with Jonny Bairstow and Shikhar Dhawan destroying SRH spinners all over the pitch to collect 28 runs without losing wickets in under three overs.

After reaching 23 runs, Bairstow fell prey to Fazalhaq Farooqi’s delivery, ending the opening partnership. This wicket brought Shahrukh Khan to the crease, and he hit Bhuvneshwar Kumar for a magnificent six.

Dhawan and Khan spearheaded a fantastic combination for PBKS, bringing their team’s total to 66-1. Shahrukh Khan was dismissed in the eighth over of the innings by Umran Malik.

Mayank Agarwal, the Punjab captain, then came to bat but couldn’t do much, as he dropped Washington Sundar’s delivery to Jagadeesha Suchith. Punjab needed a strong partnership to win the match at that point. When Punjab’s Liam Livingstone came to bat, he started his account with a stunning six. Livingstone scored 15 runs in the next over by hitting two consecutive sixes off Umran Malik’s delivery.

In the 11th over of the innings, Livingstone and Dhawan boosted their team’s total above 100 runs. Dhawan was bowled by Fazalhaq Farooqi after a stunning 41-run partnership, leaving PBKS’ core at 112/4.

Jitesh Sharma then entered the fray and smacked two fours in Farooqi’s over. Livingstone was playing an aggressive game, while Sharma was attempting to anchor the PBKS innings. Sharma’s scorching form continued in the next over, smashing one four and one six. Sharma’s fast inning was stopped by Jagadeesha Suchith, who sent him back to the pavilion.

Prerak Mankad was the next batter to bat. With Livingstone dismissing Romario Shepherd for 23, the chase equation was reduced to 2 runs in 30 balls. With 29 balls remaining, Mankad finished the match with a superb four to chase down the mark.

Earlier, Punjab Kings’ tight bowling, led by Harpreet Brar’s three-wicket haul and Nathan Ellis’s three-wicket haul, helped PBKS reduce Sunrisers Hyderabad’s total to 157/8 at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.

For SRH, Abhishek Sharma top-scored with 43 runs, while Romario Shepherd bowled a superb unbroken knock of 26 runs in 15 balls. Harpreet Brar and Nathan Ellis each took three wickets for PBKS.

Sunrisers Hyderabad chose to bat first and had a slow start. However, Kagiso Rabada gave his team an early breakthrough when he removed Priyam Garg in the third over. To keep the scoreboard ticking, Rahul Tripathi joined Abhishek Sharma at the crease.

The duo anchored a fantastic inning, destroying Punjab bowlers all over the field. Tripathi fell victim to Harpreet Brar’s delivery in the ninth over after scoring 20 runs, leaving SRH at 61/2.

Despite Tripathi’s departure, Abhishek Sharma continued to bash bowlers. SRH’s score was 71/2 after 10 overs. Harpreet struck again for PBKS, this time removing Sharma, who had scored 43 runs in 32 balls.

Nicholas Pooran then came to the crease to help his team to post a challenging total but could not stand long as he removed by Nathan Ellis after scoring just five runs. Aiden Markram soon followed Pooran back to the pavilion after scoring 21 runs.

In the 17th over, Washington’s Romario Shepherd hammered Nathan Ellis for 17 runs. In Kagiso Rabada’s spell, the duo continued their havoc on the PBKS bowlers, snatching 19 runs. Washington Sundar returned to the pavilion in the penultimate over of the first innings, but not before establishing a critical 58-run partnership with Shepherd.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s total restricted to 157/8 in 20 overs after Nathan Ellis struck twice in the final over, removing Washington Sundar and Jagadeesha Suchith in a single over.
